If you’re dreaming of an elopement with breathtaking Rocky Mountain views but want to avoid the crowds, Kananaskis is a fantastic option. One of the best hidden gems here is Upper Kananaskis Lake—a stunning location that offers privacy, easy access, and incredible scenery. I’ve captured a beautiful elopement here—Jett & Christa on October 31st, 2024.
Why Elope at Upper Kananaskis Lake?
Incredible reflections – In summer and fall (before the lake freezes), the mountains mirror beautifully on the water.
Super easy access – No hiking required! The parking lot is right next to the lake.
More privacy – Unlike Banff, this location has way fewer tourists. I’ve shot here twice and didn’t see anyone else.
Variety of backdrops – Besides the lake, the nearby forest offers a great spot for extra photos.
Do You Need a Permit for a Kananaskis Elopement?
Yes! To elope at Upper Kananaskis Lake, you'll need:
A Kananaskis Conservation Pass – You can purchase it here.
A Special Event Permit – You’ll need to apply through Alberta Parks and select Peter Lougheed Provincial Park.
